Artist Statement

Our world is full of naturally-occurring sculpture, both constructs of living cells and inorganic structures purposely built as habitats. The organisms that create these objects share my compulsion to make, to methodically turn inert materials into forms suggestive of life and activity, regardless of environment or available resources. By abstracting and rearticulating structures found in the natural world and imposing these new systems on a space, I strive to create work that feels both alluring and repellent, alien and familiar, and endemic to the environment in which it is presented.
